SAMUEL SNYDER
Wounded
At Fort De Russey
MAR. 16, 1864
Died & buried on the field
MAR. 20, 1864
Aged 23 yrs., 6 ms., [the rest of the inscription is illegible, probably number of days]

Note: Stone is broken two with the two pieces leaning against each other. There is a carving of an American Flag at the top of the stone. According to the Kane County, IL muster rolls, Samuel was from Aurora and was a member of the 95th Infantry Regiment Company A, killed at Fort De Russey on March 16, 1864. This differs from the stone which says that he was wounded on the 16th and died and was buried on the battlefield on the 20th.
