Di Salvo Family Monument
One of the most well-known monuments at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, the monument is a large marble sculpture grouping of Di Salvo family members which rotates on a marble base like a lazy susan. The sculpture grouping appears to represent a seated Rosa surrounded by her children, who are standing. There is a young adult male figure standing behind her, 2 adult women and a young girl standing in front of her. There is a stone railing (like a porch) covered with a vine. Rosa's hand is on a book resting on the railing. The youngest daughter is also holding a book. The details of each figure's clothing is very detailed. The entire grouping looks like it could be based on a family photograph from the late 1880s. There are photos of Angelo and Rosa on the stone.
Inscription on the base:
ANGELO 1869 - 1932 ROSA 1872 - 1927
DI SALVO
Additional Note: The name "LAROSA" and "FLORENCE 1891" appear at the base of the sculpture grouping, probably the name of the stone carver and where it was carved. Because the stone is designed to be rotated at will, you never know which way the monument will be facing when you visit the cemetery.
