William W. Longfellow enlisted in Company D 25th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted on 6-1-1861 and was discharged 7-18-63 as he was wounded at Pea Ridge. William was 5'9", light hair, hazel eyes, and dark complexion. Before he enlisted he states that he was farmer. It is quite possible that he died in the War itself or by wounds incurred while in the service.William W Longfellow served in the Civil War and his unit that he served in is listed on his tombstone as Co D, 25th Ill Inf. He was buried next to father Thomas Longfellow in the Newton Cemetery, Edgar, Illinois, USA. He is belived to have been born about 1838 in Edgar County, Illinois. The cemetery is a very old cemetery that is a half a mile from the nearest paved road and is about four miles South East of Scottland, Illinois.
