An Old Pioneer Gone ... John M. Smith, an old settler and former resident... died yesterday morning at Talmage Neb, where he was living with his daughter, Mrs J. M. Shuff. ... well known in this community as a man of sterling worth and praise-worthy character... 83 years of age, having spent the later years of his life in a cessation from toil after many years of usefulness and ministering among his fellow men... remains will arrive in the city at 5:15 this afternoon and will be taken to the residence of his brother, A P Smith on east State St where the funeral will be held. He leaves several children one of whom James Smith lives in the county.
