Laura was the youngest of four children born to James Farmer and Elizabeth Ann (Kelly) Brower.
She was trained as a nurse and attended to soldiers at Camp Dodge during the great influenza epidemic of 1918-1919.
There she met Dr. Ulysses S. Boyer and they eventually married on 16 Dec 1922 in Pittsburgh. They lived in Davenport, Iowa and had one child, a daughter. After her husband died, Laura went to live with her daughter and family where she was able to enjoy their active family life and her three grandchildren.
