Clothilda DeFries was born on May 25, 1861, in Linn, Missouri, to Josephine Gobels, and Tonges Otto DeFries. She married Theodore B Wissing in Peoria, Illinois, on August 20, 1889, when she was 28 years old. They had five children, Leo Joseph Wissing(1890–1974), Alphonse Wissing(1892–1965), Estelle A Wissing (1894–1969), Joseph L Wissing(1896–1953) and Marie Lucia Wissing(1898–1992). She died
on April 15, 1929, in Peoria, Illinois,
